CALENDAR OF EVENTS

February is “Library Lovers Month” and there is so much for
you to love at your public libraries in Llano County! The libraries offer
all of the latest in popular fiction and non-fiction, a wonderful
selection of audio books, a growing collection of DVDs, internet computers
and WiFi access, and so much more! Also, every month the calendar is
filled with interesting and informative programs and library sponsored
events.
This month things are very “sweet” at the Kingsland Library
– first with a special chocolate program and then the next week a dessert
competition. If your passion is chocolate, then be at the library on
Tuesday, February 7 at 2:00 p.m. for a history of, health benefits of, and
pairings for chocolate with Steve Parsons of “Choccolatte’s” in Marble
Falls. He will have samples as well as a special chocolate treat for a
lucky person as a door prize.
For more sweet fun, plan to attend the “Sweetheart Soiree”
Desserts Competition on Valentine’s Day (February 14) at 5:00 p.m. There’s
more than one way to have fun with this event – plan to enter the contest
or come by to sample the sweets and enjoy the music of Sol Patch in
Concert. There are four categories to consider entering: 1. Cakes,
Cupcakes & Cake Bars; 2. Pies, Cobblers & Crisps; 3. Brownies, Dessert
Bars & Cookies; 4. Sweetheart (Miscellaneous Desserts). Deadline for entry
is February 11.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, February 9 for the
Friends of the Llano Library’s Annual “Souper” Supper Smack Down. There
will be a large variety of soups and you can sample all of them and/or
have a big bowl full and then vote for your favorite. The meal is by
donation, but we do ask that you help with a suggested minimum donation of
$3.00. New this year – everyone is invited to make a pot of soup and
donate it to be entered into the running for “Best Soup in Llano!” Besides
bragging rights, the winner will receive a copy of “Llano County Family
Heritage Cookbook: 150 Years of Family Recipes: Prepared by the Llano
County Historical Society, Inc.” Official entry rules and registration
form are available at the Library.
Proceeds from the “Souper” Supper this year will go toward
the Newspaper Digitization Project at the Llano Library. The library has a
little known treasure – The Llano News from 1913 to date on microfilm. So
much about Llano’s history and people can be found in these rolls! We want
to digitize the entire collection so that it can be viewed on any computer
and is searchable! You can help make this project possible by donating any
amount to the project or by donating for a full roll (one year) to honor
or in memory of a family member or friend or even your graduating class –
you pick the year. By the date of the “Souper” Supper we should have an
example of what we are getting and a definite cost per roll. If you would
like more information about this project, please talk with Tommi Myers at
the Llano Library.
The Lakeshore Library will round out the tasty events in
February with a “Cooking With Herbs” program on February 21 at 2:30 p.m.
with speaker Roy Petty, chef and Master Gardener. More on this program in
next week’s article.
For more information on any events and programs please call
the library – Llano Library at 325-247-5248, Kingsland Library at
325-388-3170, and the Lakeshore Library at 325-379-1174. Also, find the
Llano County Library System on Facebook to stay up-to-date with all of the
programs and events.
